Carbon air filters are manufactured from premium materials such as coconut shells, anthracite and bituminous coal. They demonstrate superior performance on an extensive array of air treatment applications to remove odors, fumes and gases.

Activated Carbon Air Filters clean the air in two ways, by trapping pollutants in microscopic pits present in the carbon and by a physical process called adsorption. Adsorption is a process where gases adhere themselves to a material's surface.

Activated carbon is steam-treated to increase the number of cavities. It provides moderate filtration and odor removal and will remove many common airborne pollutants that exist in a gaseous form at room temperature.

Some manufacturers offer models that use enhanced carbon filters. Some use a carbon-zeolite mix while others enhance the carbon by other means. This provides additional protection where greater adsorption is required for formaldehyde, ethylene, heavy metals from cigarette smoke, lower weight hydrocarbons, ammonia and volatile organic compounds.

Zeolite is a natural volcanic mineral consisting of silica and alumina. Zeolite adsorbs toxic noxious fumes from chemicals, molds and gases. Natural zeolite has a unique interconnecting lattice structure which forms a honeycomb framework of interconnecting channels and pores.

The negatively charged alumina and neutrally charged silica produce an open three dimensional honeycomb framework which actually attracts odors & gases and traps them in its crystalline structure. The natural ionic charge is very effective in attracting and adsorbing airborne pollutants such as: cigarette & cigar smoke, cooking odors, musty mold & mildew odors, pet urine, volatile organic compounds (VOC's), ammonia, chemicals, cleaning solvents, hydrocarbons, particle board offgassing, toxic fumes, formaldehyde and new carpet outgassing.
